Nearly 17 months

Things are good, busy as usual, but good. Finn is nearly 17 months old – it’s amazing how fast time flies, while at the same time how slow it goes.

Finn is starting to string words together into clear sentences, like “Bella, I’m sorry.” and “More [pomegranate] seeds please.” We can understand him now about 60% of the time. He’s still babbling a bit, but the babbles sound more and more clear, as in – he’s clearly talking about something!

My favorite is hearing everything he has to say in the morning – that’s when he’s his most talkative. Right now he wakes up and says “Cooper” first thing – it’s his bedtime lovey – a cute, stuffed lion with wide, friendly eyes, and a multi-colored tail that Finn insists is a flower (He’ll say: “Flower. Smell it.” I’ll sniff it and say “Pee-yew! It stinks!” Janay will sniff it and say “Mmmm, that smells good!” it’s a silly game, but he thinks it’s hilarious). Then he’ll start talking about what ever is his favorite subject du jour. For days in a row he would wake up saying “-tar!” meaning, guitar. He really, really loves music – especially guitars.

Janay has an old acoustic guitar that he’s obsessed with playing right now. We had it out the other night and he was plucking and strumming the strings – I said “Finn’s jamming!” and he said “Jam on it!” I admit, I’ve been teaching him to say jam on it, like “Put some jam on it” in a James Brown kind of voice. I love that he applies this saying to other things – especially when he’s going all Jimi Hendrix on the guitar.

Other Finn things – he’s started eating with a spoon. Big improvement over the caveman eating he was doing before. He’s getting molars – which has caused lots of grief in the house. Even Bella is upset by the crying. We’ve been giving him ibuprofen chewables, and that makes life a lot easier since he thinks they’re a tasty treat, and has even started to ask for them on schedule. It’s nice that he can tell us his “teeth hurt”, but it’s also soul crushing to hear your little baby say he’s in pain.

Meanwhile, my new job is super awesome and I really feel like I’m challenged (in a good way) and learning a lot. And working downtown is just the best thing – I’ve really enjoyed walking through downtown and taking in all the sites (good and bad).

Speaking of challenge, I received another offer to teach, but this time at the university level. The co-chair from my masters program (HCDE) at the University of Washington asked me to come back this coming winter quarter to teach Web Design & Publishing. It’s such an amazing opportunity that I said yes. It’s only 2 days a week during the afternoon – so it won’t take a lot of time away from family or job, so it’s perfect. While I feel nervous about teaching (hoping I won’t suck), I’m anxious to start and excited to teach at the UW.

**********Okay, I’ve been sitting on this update for about a week now. I’m going to publish it and write another update soon. Stay tuned!

You rock and I am so glad and happy you are having so many offers to do things that you love. :) I can’t believe how big Finn is getting! He needs to slow down on that growing along with my kids! Time needs to slow down! What was he for Halloween??

We actually didn’t do anything for Halloween – we’re getting ready to put our house on the market, so things have been crazy around our place. We barely had time to think about costumes, and then before we knew it – Halloween was here. I figure this is probably the last Halloween Finn won’t have a chance of remembering, so no chance long term scars (hopefully).

Oh just wondering is all! :) No worries I am sure it will be for sure that he will not remember. Xander doesn’t even remember that we went to Disney World when we did almost 3 yrs. ago! :’( What can you do. I hope that you guys find something absolutely perfect and will be in there before Christmas!!! Love you guys.
